Faces of London by Alberto Tandoi
When photographer Alberto Tandoi embarked on his Faces of London portrait series in 2020, he sought to demonstrate just how diverse beauty can be by documenting countless variant forms that he observed when discovering the capital. “London always fascinated me,” he explains, “there are people from all over the world with extremely compelling looks and personalities, and photography is a great excuse to explore the city and meet interesting people.”
With very little forward planning in place, Alberto began selecting his subjects based on a natural draw towards them upon their crossing paths. Soon, he noticed how he himself was reflected in each portrait: “Every portrait is a self-portrait. When I took hundreds of portraits, I gained a better understanding of myself as a person and as an artist.” This route to self-realisation has encouraged Alberto to continue adding to the project as an ongoing series.
Reflecting on the project so far, Alberto says, “I really have to thank all the people that let me take portraits of them. I always find it amusing how people can be so available, and give a complete stranger a bit of their time, and maybe a bit of themselves, without asking for anything in return.”
